A Suffolk Eye

Churchyard hen

There's a hen that I know,
Finds food in the churchyard
She doesn't mind what,
But it must be the churchyard.
.

Here in Woodbridge, the central churchyard is a place for the living as well as the dead. Several old houses have entrances among the tombs and people sit out amidst arbours and plants in pots surveying the quick and the dead alike.

This very beautiful hen - one of three - is a recent arrival, scratching her living between the gravestones. (Well some of it. She has also been known to visit the home of my favourite octogenarian, where a bag of grain waits in the hall just in case she's a bit peckish)
