The football

Somehow, I have been drawn into the football, despite the fact I don't particularly enjoy it. But when I recall that every match I've seen has been in a pub with some of my kids, then I realise where the attraction has been.

The Minx and I went up to Kirkby Lonsdale today in part because word had come through the family bush telegraph that Dan was actually quite keen for us to meet his girlfriend, Katie, who has been staying for a few days.

I can't say I'm a massive fan of meeting girlfriends and boyfriends. On the one hand, they get an 'access all areas' pass into your life and then, if you do like them, you live with the chance that one day they'll suddenly disappear.

Anyway, Katie turned out to be charming, so that was all OK, and we all enjoyed a curry before going over to The Snooty Fox to watch the football in the beer garden.

I also fitted in a run, this afternoon. On Hannah and Milly's recommendation I've signed up to an app called Runna and that's created a training plan for me in anticipation of the Kielder marathon in October.

The first run was 8.1. miles, so the Minx dropped me off just beyond Middleshaw so that I could run home. Happily, and despite the hills, it a was comfortable and enjoyable run.
