Shut up and dance

I bought plants even though it is stupid and too hot to plant them. Then while talking with a friend about the presidency I planted them, because hard physical labor helps. 

I saw a butterfly very briefly in my garden and this one in the street.

Ukraine is moving toward English.  In June they adopted a new law establishing English as the language of international communications. A bunch of government officials will have to learn English which is not easy. You can see, for soldiers, how much easier it would make learning new weapons systems. As the president's wife recently put it, Russian is now "the language of the people who came to kill us."


The G7 said they would give Ukraine a loan for $50 billion, low-interest, using Russian frozen assets as collateral. Putin said he would seize Western assets. The funny thing is that we all wanted those companies to leave Russia and thus we have no sympathy for them. 


Russia increased import tariffs for consumer goods produced in countries that support sanctions. What some people don’t understand is that the citizens of the country pay those tariffs. So, let’s say, for example, a presidential candidate says he’ll impose tariffs on a country, he is saying he will make his citizens pay it. If he says no, the country he’s imposing tariffs on will pay them, look out. He might be so stupid, so lacking understanding, that he’ll declare they are paying for a wall next. Some goods are already much more expensive. For example, imported alcohol costs more and now it will cost even more so all the miserable Russians will have to drink local brew. 


A Russian ammunition depot in Kherson go boom. I listened to the video. Sounded like uncontrolled fireworks.
