The Lozarithm Lens

Mono Monday (22nd July 2024)

I have seen the film A Hard Day's Night several times over the years. The first time, according to the Spotlight Kid, was on a family camping holiday in Haverfordwest, probably in 1964 as the film went on general release in July of that year. When I bought the restored Blu-ray that was released in 2014 it was primarily to watch the generous quantity of bonus features, which I have now done. However when I was about to file it away I noticed that the film itself had been restored with a newly created 5.1 surround mix supervised by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, so last night I watched the film in this new form, which brought the music in particular to spring into life (a medley from the climax of the film is included in my LOTD).

The film was in black and white, as is the blu-ray casing, so it is fortuitous that this week's Mono Monday theme is on the theme of 'Four'. How could I resist? With thanks to JacZero.
