Warrender
The day started well just after midnight as I got Wordle in 2 goes!
A busy morning of shopping and correspondence. Went to pick up our Dr daughter-in-law from Waverley station. I had to follow what seemed an unnecessary diversion down the High Street. The city centre was heaving with tourists!
By a stroke of good timing as I arrived outside the station entrance she emerged, hopped in and we headed home.
In the afternoon I went to visit a dear friend of the family whose wife of 72 years died last week. As a couple they holidayed each summer for 18 years with our parents and as families when we were younger we also had holidays. They were with us when I had to have my appendix removed in Andorra la Vella in 1971.
He is now 97 and we chatted for a couple of hours recalling school days ( we had been to the same school), family events, parties and the world in general.
On my was back to the bus I walked past Warrender Baths - now called the Warrender Swim centre - for the first time in years. It was built privately on land bought from Sir George Warrender and opened in 1887. It was where I learned to swim. I was surprised to see it in operation as it has had several periods of difficult years but from the website it has clearly had investment and now looks in great shape. Much better than I remember it. And as you can see by the evening there was blue sky and some sunshine!
