In the frame..

This morning I joined D’s Bromley history group on a tour of the Bromley Civic Centre before it finally relocates. For most in the group the emphasis was on its importance as the council chamber and mayoral business conducted there for many years. Seeing behind the scenes.

For me it was an opportunity to revisit my teacher training college and to visit again the palace of the Bishop of Rochester, a Queen Ann building and very beautiful. Used by the big chiefs and admin staff back in the day, I remember these colonnades , facing out onto a big lawn, as the venue for the annual fashion shows by our department. A cat walk some loved… More confident now, I had to walk it again, for fun.

The visit was extremely interesting but very sad that so many of the old buildings of our town centre are having to be sold for redevelopment. A cinema, library and theatre are all set for change.
