Norway Day#4
Can you guess what the second language on the sign is?
The language is on the UNESCO list of endangered languages and Bodø has become the first city in Norway to officially promote it.
The sign is written in Sami, the language spoken by the indigenous people of the north of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
We in the UK refer to the area as Lapland but the local people call it Sapmi.
When I worked, the finance director of our Norwegian office, told me that to visit her Sami grandmother from Oslo was further than travelling from Oslo to Rome.
Lesson over
We explored a heritage area above Bodø with original buildings and cultural museum. We followed a geocaching trail on our phones that culminated in Richard and I having to paddle to collect the final prize (extra). The map pin is where we were paddling
Than a ferry to our next destination.
