Georgian Dancing at Osterley House
One of three ladies in the Entrance Hall at Osterley, demonstrating dances and the use of fans - seemingly 33 different fan codes depending on how you held or waved it.
I enjoyed the elegance of the dance, particularly noting the gracefully positioning of the arms and hands.
Osterley was remodelled in the late 18th Century by the architect Robert Adam for the Child family, to entertain and impress their guests and clients. They held "Saturday to Monday" parties - what a treat. It was once described as "the palace of palaces".
Loved the place, particularly the tapestries, original carpets matching ceiling plasterwork, and an Eight Poster Bed, with an inbuilt cupola and a crown above - fit for a king, but none ever slept there.
32C in London, scorching hot as we walked around the Lakes and gardens.
