...down lonely street,
to Heartbreak Hotel".

This hotel and fuel station were built last summer on a site next to the A1 trunk road in Northumberland. It had been hoped that the forecourt would provide competition to the existing one in the town of Alnwick. However, in December, the Gazette reported that the petrol station was to close following weeks without fuel, causing frustration among residents, and rumours of the staff being made redundant.

So although the hotel, where we lunched today, is open for business, the time scale for reopening the fuel station emblazoned on the board outside has long passed. This part of the site is closed to transport, and looks like lonely street after sitting empty for most of its life.
