Lewis - Day 4

After a very wet and windy night, we have time to relax/wait in our tent, it was still too rough to go out. At last, it cleared just before midday, and we had a window of good weather to make the most off – the forecast for the next day is for very strong wind. The revised plan was now to finish the whole circuit stopping to explore Beàrnaraigh Beag (Little Bernera) but not camp there as was originally planned.
I fancied a shot in the sailing boat – Callicvol (extra) is not your “normal” sailing boat though, she is a Sgoth Niseach - a traditional Lewis fishing boat with a single triangular sail, with no engine but some oars. I have never sailed, and I can’t say I really took to it. Ian, the skipper is lovely, but I was glad that someone else wanted a shot when we got to Little Bernera and I could get back to a rowing skiff. The sun came and it was absolutely glorious for the rest of the day. We spent some time exploring the island, with its magnificent sandy beaches, then pressed on back to Breascleit, our starting point.
Then, we had the laborious task of getting all the boats back to their trailers – a lot of lifting and carrying, so it was well after 9:00 when we got back to the campsite to pitch our tents, have showers and cook. However, we were treated with the most magnificent sunset.
