Life in a Northern Town

Happy Birthday

My Mum is 87 today  - I have a distinct lack of photos of us together but I dug out this one - Butlins Minehead 1975. It was our only holiday as a family and I had the absolute time of my life - it was glorious. We went as a group with some work colleagues; the adults would go to the pub in the evening leaving us kids to just wander around - we were all about 10 years old. I was desperate to go back every year but I imagine it was an expensive trip back then, and a one-off.

I'm wearing my plastic Bay City Rollers hat that used to stick to my head but I wouldn't take it off. My mum is wearing jeans!!! I have no memory of her ever wearing trousers until she was probably in her 70s - she looks so happy and relaxed (we were there for her 38th birthday, she's nearer my kids' current ages there than she is to mine - that's very scary).

She's not having a good week - she has delerium from potentially a number of (currently unknown) causes but it's affected her very badly indeed - my poor step-dad has also had quite a few days, but as of today she has a one-to-one carer in with her and is on antibiotics so hopefully things will improve. A friend is going there today to Facetime me if it's practical to do so (step-dad doesn't have a mobile phone) so fingers crossed I can wish her Happy Birthday in person.
