much less exciting than it looks

One of the disadvantages of walking to and from work in different clothes to those worn whilst sitting and working is that when the fire alarm goes off near the end of a long day I can't just grab my bags and call it a day (as did boss³) as my proper clothes, wallet and pleasant footwear are trapped in a locker which it would be taking the piss slightly to go past on the way out even if I had finished sufficient work to be able to bugger straight off without ending up getting whined at tomorrow morning. I therefore had to watch the people on the other walkway for twenty minutes until the security guards let us back in; we usually have a system of fire wardens (plucked from staff with the promise of fire extinguisher training on pools of burning oil in cars parks, though such training never seems to materialise) to pass on such messages but at six most people had left for the day. No-one seemed to be bothering to go to their proper assembly point as none of the security guards would be able to walk that far to tell people it was safe to return.
