A Tale of Two Bridges

We didn't feel the need to hurry back home this morning as the weather was still beautiful so we visited the Imperial War Museum North, crossing over the Manchester Ship Canal on the Media City Footbridge.  It is a dramatic looking bridge and apparently is an asymmetric cable-stayed swing bridge, completed in 2011.  The roof of the IMW North can just be seen on the left hand side of my blip.

I've also added a couple of extras from yesterday evening as we made our way back to the hotel.  This pedestrian bridge is the Salford Quays lift bridge, also known as the Lowry bridge, completed in 2000.  It is situated near the terminus of the ship canal beside The Lowry theatre and gallery and has a lift of 18 metres apparently. I've also added a photo of the trams because we were so impressed with the efficient and cheap tram system which took us anywhere we needed to go.

We had a wonderful weekend away and now we're back home we feel as if we've been away for about a week!  Ivy was very pleased to see us this evening.  She had been staying with her boyfriend Arthur, a lovely fox red labrador, and his parents!  They both behaved really well apparently which is good to hear.
