Flying Buttresses - Silkstone Parish Church

My walk was shorter yesterday. In fact just across the road from the health Centre where I was attending my doctor appointment.  It was such a clear blue sky that it seemed too good to miss. My legs were playing at being wobbly, so I probably wouldn't have walked a long way, but I did manage a supermarket shop in Penistone afterwards.

The last time I photographed the gargoyles was the 4 May 2011, which was soon after I'd joined Penistone Camera Club and I guess it was the kind of image that I'd seen other people in the club produce - I've moved on since then, though I do rather like this set of images.  (I wasn't doing quite so much with `grid' presentations then).

Three of the original gargoyles were replaced a few years ago and last night I was trying to research them online.  I'm sure I've found more information in the past, but this was the best I came up with:

They include original mediaeval carvings - some of which are that are eroded beyond recognition - Victorian restorations and modern replacements, carved in 2005, which depict a local businessman, a churchwarden and the mayor of Saint-Florent-Des-Bois, Silkstone's twin town in France.’

The local business man is Tom Horsfield, (top middle - I think) who developed a nursery business next door to the church.  It’s now a very successful commercial enterprise run by family members and has a very nice cafe,, if you are in the area.
