Diary of an Edinburgher

Having a laugh

No action packed day today- we can't keep it up! It seemed that the whole neighbourhood was partying last night until the wee small hours, but living in Marchmont, we're not unfamiliar with the phenomenon.

We hopped on a bus to take us to Christianshavn. We'd been to the Free State of Christiania before on our first visit to Copenhagen, so we didn't bother going there again. It was nothing to do with the tales Rob told us yesterday of a camera-wielding tourist being stabbed there... We had a wander round the canals - you'd think you were in Amsterdam but for the big posh yachts.

A wander back through town, passing the royal's house. A few bored soldiers on guard. They change the guards about midday, so we must make it for that palaver ceremony one day.

I rather liked the wee tall skinny huts they had to hang their cloaks and put their snacks. I asked the guard if it was a real gun. He ignored me. Perhaps he didn't hear me...

There were a couple of chaps standing near us as I took this shot. The soldier, obviously rather bored, looked round, saw them, stuck his arm out, and flicked his hand, indicating that the chaps had to move over. They were standing (slightly) in the wrong place! We were all laughing uproariously at this, but the soldier was glaring at us. I then decided it might well have been a real gun, and we departed hastily, lest we got put in the dungeon with those two law breaking chaps.

A cooler day today, which is actually a bit of a relief. We're back home mid afternoon, relaxing, possibly snoozing, and definitely going to watch a DVD. We've watched the whole Series 2 of the Office. I'd forgotten how funny it was! Pure comic genius.
