As I looked at the stake where I had tied up Millie and saw it empty a lot of things crossed my mind and verbalised my angst I have to say.
I was at Ripple Lake with menace in tow who was behaving fairly ok when I saw an emperor dragonfly just asking for a photoshoot. Happily there was a substantial stake in the ground so I tied her on only 10ft away from the edge of the water where I was standing. Less than 2 minutes later I turned round and the stake was bare. Houdini comes to mind. It's a big lake ..... Luckily she has a tracker on her so I knew I was going in the right direction following her and after jogging a fair distance I saw her little head underneath the lifebelt sitting there looking at me. I wasn't in the Navy and obviously my knot tying technique could be a lot better.
The worse part of the story is still to come:
We got back to the car. I popped my car key into the centre console, put my camera on the floor and lifted Milly into her special seat and shut the car door. Trotting round the back the car locked itself. 9:03 on my phone at that moment.
The sun was getting higher, there were no other cars in the car park and the Mercedes App would not/could not open any door or boot. I was lucky that I had kept my phone in my shorts pocket.
I started by trawling the App, then rang the Mercedes help line. The guy wanted me to answer a zillion questions - could I find my mileage on the App no a couldn't but eventually and time ticking here he got out the RAC. (I don't think the guy had ever had a dog let alone one stuck in a hot car!) It was going to be a while. Hubs, very busy at work had obviously been mobilised - key question lol - where was the spare key?! I thought it was in my handbag in the car but he dropped in at home and tipped the draw out and found it and like a knight in shining armour came to my rescue. I cancelled the RAC.
I had had visions: I'm going to have to break the car window, how do I break the car window? Blimey there is nothing here TO break the car window with.
Have I learnt lessons?
Yes I have:
Never trust a Border Terrier - EVER!
Get knot tying lessons from #1 son who has a lot of experience in that
Never take my car key out of my pocket and leave it in said car
ALWAYS take my phone with me - it's not just for Steps
It transpires that mum has had a fall and been taken to A&E yesterday but is coming out after an assessment.
It never rains ....
