A trip in to the RA Summer Exhibition. We come most years and each is different. Last year was great, but there was a sense of being shouted at through the exhibits. This year is a little more restrained. Online reviews are mixed; polite, hum drum, tedious, all too safe, in need of a kick up the backside … but I found it thought-provoking and more representative of our society as a whole. There is an immediate wow factor entering a room with floor to ceiling exhibits, and it’s refreshing to see that there are other ways of communicating big stories well other than shock, offence or volume. So I enjoyed it. And then off to lunch at Gunpowder Soho, which we also enjoyed, very much! See extra.
