One Day at a time
Today’s blip is a Tigridia Pavonia in our garden, which only flowers for one day.
Tigridia pavonia is an exotic Mexican bulb, sometimes called peacock flower, an appropriate name in view of its quite startling colour combinations – all the shades of scarlet, orange, pink, yellow, mauve and white, usually with contrasting markings. It's barely hardy, and normally grown as a tender summer annual, planted in spring and dug up again in autumn for storing in a dry frost-free place.
I planted the bulbs in spring 2023 and luckily they flowered (although a different colour) last year. That said, I never bothered taking the bulbs out and they seem to have done ok or even better) this year.
There is something quite magical and mysterious about a flower that opens up in the morning but is them dead as the sun goes down on the same day.
Looking forward to a yellow one, which looks as if it will flower tomorrow.
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful long overdue summer weather we are having.
Just away out to water the plants again.
