Connections
(31/7/24)
I had a great day in the office, getting a few colleagues on board to join me for lunch. Ever since we saw the poster, G & I have wanted to check out the Business Lunch that Chicken Tikka Inn offers. At 10:30, I had a group of six. This changed to four and finally to three when the time to leave came. Typical!
Small groups are easier though, and Shehroz & Alia proved to be great company. It was also easier to get to know each other in a small group. The restaurant did not let us down with the quality of the food and the manager allowed us to make individual changes to his set menu! We were back in 90 minutes and I finished my work day in the office, which surprised more than one person!
I didn't have the energy to tackle putting the amp back in its place last night, so I set to doing that today. I knew it would take time but I didn't expect the whole evening to be taken up by it. The amp is easy to connect, but it is the associated moving around (and cleaning) of the other devices that takes time.
So, the problem of distorted sound that I've had for several years showed itself again. Argh. I finally identified the issue. It is fine when listening to music in the Mono mode but when you want to listen in Stereo (doh), then there is distortion. Why the technician didn't figure this out is annoying as it has wasted time and effort.
I searched for a schematic diagram of the unit on Google. Thankfully I found one for free. Tomorrow, I will share the info with the workshop. Hopefully, they can get the part they need to fix it once and for all. It is heartening to think that after thirty years, there is only one small part that has gone wrong. They were far more sustainable in the 1980s than they are now.
It was good to listen to a whole LP record on the new turntable, even in Mono. I am still in two minds as to whether I want to keep it. I hadn't registered the detail that it is fully manual. The arm of my 1985 Kenwood returns home after it has played to the end of the side!
