Brodiaea californica

A summer flowering bulb native to dry grassland habitats where the flowers just about overtop the prairie grasses. It flowers as the leaves (and I guess most of the surrounding vegetation) turns crisp and brown in the summer heat ..... which is pretty much what's happening here right now.

I raised these from seed sent by veteran California wildflower expert Wayne Roderick to a seed exchange. Twenty years on, still growing strong!
