Journey Home
We made our way home from Castleton today, saying goodbye to Sharon's family for now.
We first went for a look at the broken road near Mam Tor. This is a road that has been given up on, since it keeps slipping down the hillside. The remains were a good example of the power of nature.
After unsuccessfully trying to find a parking spot close to the Mam Tor summit, we tried to stop at a gallery, but there wasn't enough parking so we gave that up as a bad job and drove through to the viewpoint at Owler Tor. After a quick stop at the rocks, we drove through to the Longshaw Estate for some lunch, but there was a "Car Park Full" sign on the gate. After a quick google maps search for an alternative, we found a cafe for lunch.
The cafe was at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, a steel working site that produced scythe blades for many hundreds of years. It's history goes back to at least the the 13th century. The main blip is from one of their machines. The cafe was so good, we went back for tea and cake after wandering around the site.
A short drive up the road from there is Beauchief Abbey, which is now a church. It wasn't open today, but we had a wander around the ruins in the grounds. I'm told it's pronounced Bee-Chiff.
From there is was the long drive back home.
