Gatekeeper on common valerian

There was a pleasantly fresh breeze blowing at Badbury Rings this morning, and there were plenty of butterflies - marbled whites, meadow browns, gatekeepers and ringlets and two or three dark green fritillaries. All were extremely active in the hot weather and this was the only butterfly I saw settle.

Most of the orchids at this site have gone over now: there were only a few common spotted and fragrant orchids still in flower, but the pyramidal orchids are starting to come into their own. We looked for frog orchids, but we haven't seen them for such a long time we couldn't remember where they grow.
