Gala

Today was the start of Gala Week in Dunscore. Joanna had invited me to be her assistant in judging the competitions, so we went along to the field for 2pm. Bouncy castles were being inflated and the BBQ was being fired up in a corner of the marquee.

The first competition which we had to judge was a bakery one - Empire biscuits. I have seen some excellent Empire biscuits produced by the kitchen at work so I knew what I was looking for - a nicely textured biscuit, just the right amount of raspberry jam, a good covering of icing and preferably a glace cherry on top. Joanna was the taster and between us, we judged many biscuits (see extra) of all shapes and sizes, in class from PreSchool to Adult. (The Best in Show were those on the bottom left of my photo).

Second competition was a painted stone - this was more difficult, as there were some ingenious entries, but we made our decisions and retired to our seats to watch the crowning of the Gala Queen and King, who were piped in along with their three attendants, Lucy, Ritchie and Seth. Here is Seth's Mum getting him to smile for the cameras :-)
