At last!

For the last few days, I have been hoping against hope that a butterfly or two would appear on our buddleia and was beginning to give up.
Until today.
Three have appeared, much, much less than on previous years, but it’s a start.
The first one I glimpsed was a Fritillary or perhaps even a Comma but by the time I got my camera, it had moved on to another garden.
Next was a Red Admiral but it refused to open its wings before flying off.
Then a Small Tortoiseshell landed as in the photo.
In previous years we have had lots of them, and perhaps a victim of “Familiarity breeds contempt”, I have failed to appreciate the really wonderful markings on this beautiful insect.
The buddleia itself is pretty amazing with its hundreds of little flowers on one “bloom”
P.S. Many thanks for enabling my early morning photo do well in the popular pages.
