GREAT WHITE EGRET
I went over to RSPB Saltholme this afternoon to stop me giving in to snacking temptation at home. It was very peaceful, though hard to avoid noticing the police helicopter circling over Middlesbrough down the road, and at one point ominous black smoke which seemed to be coming up from somewhere in town (1st extra). Unconcerned by human folly, there was a spoonbill on the far side of the water (2nd extra), the first one I've seen here (or ever, I think) and a rather ragged comma butterfly in the wildlife garden (3rd extra).
