Butt Rub
Spike is never more happy than when he is getting his butt rub. I'm happy when I manage to get a clear picture as he is usually behind or under some piece of furniture. We were taking advantage of the sun on the porch for coffee and the newspaper before it gets too hot. The Sunday paper offers faint hope that T has been caught on the back foot by Biden's withrawl and replacement by a young, vigorous opponent in Kamala Harris. He doesn't seem to be able to come up with anything nasty, but of course, like all bullies, he really doesn't know how to deal with somebody who not only has a lot of experience but is young, smart,
and not afraid of him. As I predicted, he has withdrawn from next week's debate.
John spends at least part of every day fixing irrigation leaks. It is a system which needs to do two things at once; be flexible enough to reach individual plants and sturdy enough to resist weather, animals and the occasional hit with a shovel. We put water out for animals, birds and bees, but it's a challenge to not let it stand so long that it attracts mosquitos. In the current weather, it evaporates quickly. We're not sure which critter is doing it, but something chews through the drip lines in search of water.
Once it gets too hot to carry on outside he comes inside and works on his puzzle. I was in the garage the other day looking for something and found at least 50 puzzles neatly stacked in one storage cabinet. He can't donate them because he can't guarantee that they aren't missing at least one piece but I think he hates the idea of throwing them in the trash...or even the recycling.
I have been working on a puzzle of sorts myself. My geometry skills are being tested as I work on the Klee inspired quilt for my neighbor. It's all a bit hit and miss as I try to come up with something I like. I've ordered a stack of Kaffe Fassett solid color shot cotton fabrics in all the right colors but I have no idea when they will arrive, or if I've ordered enough....It keeps me busy....
Dana and Jim are back from a wedding in Quincy, a town in the Sierra foothills, and we will soon be returning Blake to them and joining them for Sunday supper.....
