Sgwarnog: In the Field

Tower

I had a day off to spend with 16yo so we headed over to York.

After a nice lunch at SOPHiE (one of the Lendal Bridge cafés) we were trying to work our way through Museum Gardens toward the art gallery when we stumbled into the gallery garden, which was a nice quiet space away from the usual hustle and bustle of York. They have planted a wildflower meadow to coincide with a Monet exhibit, and I thought that set off St Mary’s Tower nicely (main image). Unfortunately we’d forgotten that some of York’s public attractions shut on Mondays and Tuesdays, so the gallery was closed.

We headed up onto the city walls at Bootham Bar, and walked the section round to Monk Bar, which provides good views of the Minster, various immaculate gardens and occasionally people’s washing. Thereafter we mainly just pottered around the shops, albeit in an unplanned way so we got to see a fair bit of the city. I restricted myself to a couple of books from the Amnesty Bookshop. Afternoon refreshments were taken at Drift-in where I indulged in vegan chocolate shake and brownie.
