219/366 King Charles Stone !

219/366 6th Aug  King Charles Stone ! On 23rd September 1651 King Charles 2nd while trying to flee the country after the Battle of Worcester during the Civil War narrowly escaped capture after being spotted in Bridport, this stone marks the entrance to Lee Lane the route he took to avoid a troop of Roundheads, he ended up in a local village Broadwindsor and stayed the night in an inn there (The Gearge Inn) . (A friend now lives in the very house).  The escape – The Fugitive King
