people in glass houses...
plenty of choice for a blip today as we spent the whole day at rhs wisley (when we found it - no signs at all unless you're coming from the motorway, which we weren't, so we got turned around several times). i have kept 134 shots, took plenty more, too...
my parents have both been here several times - my dad's sister used to live in bracknell and they came most years til A&R moved - but i've never been and it's changed since dad was last here (the glasshouse is new, for starters, and isn't it cool?). now i know why my dad likes it so much! wonderful main house with a canal filled with water lilies (and carp) right at the entrance and glorious areas right thru the whole acreage. the rockery is massive and so well designed; the fruit nursery area is fascinating; acers at every turn as if they were ten a penny; brilliant bamboos; things that grow outdoors here like weeds that i can't keep as houseplants in edinburgh, and a glasshouse with a waterfall.
i know next to nothing about plants, but i like looking at them, and being with my parents is like having an encyclopaedia with me as plants is what they do for a living. my mother, who has gardened since I can remember, confessed she wished she were younger and could do a horticulture/garden design course and really do it all full-time - a reminder that i should not sit on my arse and think about doing it later, i suspect, but of course she?s right. not sure that i want to change my path entirely, but plant-related is something on the list, for the sheer therapy of it even tho the wages would be rubbish.
