Slowly receding water
Just an update today. The water is slowly receding as you can see. The sun is even out. I think the water has gone down even more now as when I took this photo the tide was rising.
Yes, we live on a tidal river! The Gulf of Mexico flows in and out of Tampa Bay, up the Manatee River and all the way up to the Braden River where we live. You can see this on a map by clicking on the map symbol to the left of the edit button.
We saw my mom today, the roads were clear and she was doing okay... she lives on a Bayou off the larger Manatee River. Her small dock did not even get water any over it! We were so surprised. Steve thinks it was the rain that made the the river rise so much where we live, not storm surge being pushed up the river as has happened another time in a hurricane.
All of the rain from elsewhere (inland) flowing over the dam above us into the Braden River must have made it rise as much as it did and also why it's slow to leave.... my mom is in a different situation being on a Bayou off the larger Manatee river.
We had it fairly easy with this storm. I saw photos today of people being rescued via airboats in Sarasota, a neighboring town. It was in a low-lying area around a overflowing creek that resulted in severe flooding and a rescue situation. We are so sorry for those who were not as lucky as we were.
