Tzolk'in
Another switch-around of people as J&A left this morning and several friends arrived for games this evening - making the most of a relatively lightly-loaded weekend.
I taught an older-ish classic (2012) Tzolk'in. Conceptually, it is a relatively straightforward get-stuff, build-stuff, feed-workers, sacrifice-food-to-gods game but the novelty / challenge is that the action of your workers changes with time, as a set of gears move your workers from space to space.
A tight game but, as is traditional for the teacher, I came last.

The use of classic is an odd one in boardgames (indeed, the use of the word boardgames means wildly different things to different people, but lets not go there today; I have things to do). It seems off calling something only 12 years old a 'classic' when the collection is mostly substantially older than that, but it has stood the test of time, and was then, and still is, very distinctive whereas many other games have been superseded.
That said, there are other 'T-" games in the series that began with Tzolk'in, but they are nowhere near as good.
