Puff
This is Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary fame, performing for the Oregon Country Fair today. When he closed the show with "Puff the Magic Dragon" he invited all the kids in the audience up on stage with him to sing along. It was quite an emotional song moving many of us to tears hearing him pass this song along to a younger generation. He let the kids sing solo, and it was so cool hearing them bust it out knowing the song by heart. We all sang along of course. "Puff the magic dragon, lived by the sea, and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Hanalei." He took a few minutes to debunk the myth that the song was about smoking a fattie.
He also performed "Leaving On a Jet Plane" as a tribute to the late Mary Travers. His daughter sang the lead and she sounded so much like Travers. Another emotional moment.
And so another Oregon Country Fair comes to a close. For three days we see the best of color, creativity, fun, music, and free spiritedness. As I said two days ago, it's not really possible to describe it - it has to be experienced.
