Tamar Wanderings

A ride on the train today from Plymouth to Calstock with a 5 mile walk to Gunnislake, then back to Plymouth on the train. This was my next section of the Tamara Way coast-to coast walk and it was good to have company on this section. This is the view from the Okel Tor Mine, looking across the River Tamar. There was so much of interest to discover on this walk and it will likely take me a few days to fully absorb the experience. The ruins of the Okel Tor Mine complex were fascinating as was the nearby site of a Roman Fort! A church now stands on the site and before the Romans there was an Iron Age fort. Occupying a strategic position on a hill overlooking a bend in the river there is evidence that the site has been occupied in some form for around 4,000 years.
