and then there was one

We are devastated. Theo died last night. He had an accident galloping in the paddock, we think, and ruptured his internal organs. He had to be put down by our vet as he was in toxic shock and a great deal of pain. At first we thought it was colic, but he didn't respond to the medication and only got worse. He collapsed and was groaning in pain. Thankfully our vet is just over the road from the paddocks and was prepared to help us on a wet Sunday night.
The tracks in the foreground are from the front-end loader that came to pick Theo's body up and take it away for burial. He's now buried on a property next to a stream with a paddock of horses on the other side of the stream. A suitable resting place.
