Visit to Islay
The sea was as calm as a millpond on the ferry from Kennacraig to Port Askaig on Islay. Mum and I were on our way to explore the island for a few days, visit some distilleries and enjoy the sunshine.
We drove through Bruichladdich on the way to our hostel, so it seemed only right to stop by and have a taste of unpeated whisky and the peatest whisky in the world. Being the designated driver on this trip had its shortfalls, Bruichladdich also make a gin called Botonist, and I like the whisky label designs.
Our hostel was great, we met lots of interesting people over the 3 nights we were there.
*The Sinclair family - Mum, Dad and two boys, the oldest of whom had brought his bagpipes on holiday to practice with, we enjoyed the impromptu outdoor performance!
*Maggie - who is thinking of moving to Islay but waiting for a sign that it's meant to be
*Jan - A Kiwi who runs the Inveraray hostel
*Helen - who was just really nice and liked my name!
