Trixie's Adventures

A productive day

Weather app said rain all day today. Weather app was correct. It has rained pretty much all day, but that has been OK because Ann had a plan. Last night she said, 'Trixie, tomorrow (ie today) is going to be all about doing the jobs I have put off for ages, so after your morning walk you can have snooze time and I will go into productive mode.' So that is what we did!

Normally, on a Thursday, after my walk, I have snooze time while Ann goes to Zumba and then has a sea swim, but it was pouring with rain today so she didn't bother. Btw, did anyone see the article in the news re the '10ft baby basking shark' that was swimming around in St Ives harbour a couple of days ago. Apparently they're harmless?!!

First thing she had to do, was sort out her car insurrance which is due at the end of the month. Why is there no consideration for loyalty these days and why do companies make it so difficult to NOT renew a policy? At the moment our car insurrance & breakdown cover is with 'Yoga' (which is a predominately online company) and they quoted way more than £100 on top of what we're already paying to renew our policy (and that was before Ann had even told them that she had 3 points on her license due to speeding in Dec 2023!!!). Anyway, it's all sorted now. We've gone back with 'Direct Line' (who we were with previously and aren't on any comparison sites). It's weird! The price (with 3 points on her license) is cheaper than the renewal price that they quoted her last year. Why do they do this? Why does no one reward loyalty these days? Oh and if anyone is interested, we've also signed up for their breakdown cover which is with Green Flag. Better get the 'app' downloaded again cos obv no one has the ability to speak to anyone anymore!!!

Second job was making a start on her tax return. If any other Blippers have done this, you will know what a horrible time consuming job this is. Because we rent out our home here, when we're in Edinburgh, we have to complete a tax return. And very complicated it is too. By 11.30am Ann had made very good headway with this, so settled down to watch last nights episode of Corrie. I just stayed in my bed snoozing!!'

Next job on Ann's 'to do' list was to buy a new tyre for her car. When Ann's family were here in May, Ann's very lovely nephew, Dan, checked her car over for her and said she would probably need a new tyre in August. So off we went to the 'tyre shop'. We don't need a new tyre. Yay! The tyre man said the tyre was OK and could probably do another 2/3000 miles. That is great news as Ann is intending buying a new car in November and she definitely won't have done that many miles by then.

TBH, we don't use the car at all in Edinburgh (apart from to go to the supermarket). We use it a bit more in Cornwall, because sometimes I have to go a bit further afield for my walks. We mainly need a reliable car to get us from Edinburgh to Cornwall, though Ann is seriously going to look into the cost of hiring one to do these journeys. Mmmm............. what do you think Blippers?

Ann's thoughts at the moment are.......................... buy a new (or nearly new) car in November which should do her for the next 5/6 years and then review the situation. By then she'll be 70+ and everything goes up once a human hits 70 doesn't it?

After visiting the tyre shop, I got taken to the St Erth River for my walk. Haven't been there for a few weeks and everytime we go, the path seems to have eroded a bit more. Years ago we could walk for way longer than an hour, but now there's loads of sections closed off. WHY? Also there's sooo much vegetation growing in the river that no way can I get to the other side where all the bunnies live. Ann says she will contact the council for me to see what is going on
.
…..........And that's pretty much been our day.

The rain seems to have stopped now (6pm) and some of Ann's swimming group are going for a swim at 6.45pm. Ann hasn't got any energy left, so she's not going to join them. She will, however, go to 9am Zumba 2mor followed by a swim.

PS – I've just had another little trot around the field and the tent pitched in a strange place' is no longer there.
