Sgwarnog: In the Field

Gold

Continuing with the Olympic theme…

I mentioned last Saturday that I’d bumped into one of the gold post boxes in Colne. These are a legacy of London 2012, when a post box was painted gold in the home town of every Team GB olympic and paralympic gold medallist. I’ve probably seen and photographed only 10-20 pf them over the years.

I pass these ones each time I walk between the station and work in Leeds, and they commemorate boxer Nicola Adams. I think it’s unusual for two adjacent boxes to be painted, but Adams did double up her gold medal four years later at Rio, so she definitely earned it.

Over the past few days I’ve felt a bit over-saturated with Olympics, and have generally just been keeping up with the athletics and cycling.
