What a Lovely Tail You Have
I love these guys! This is an American five-lined skink, Plestiodon fasciatus aka blue-tailed skink. This beauty might be a juvenile whose stripes and blue tail color will fade as it ages. Or, since females often keep their stripes and that lovely tail color, we might need to call her 'Liz'. This species is native to North America, most common in the eastern U.S. and is one of the seven lizards endemic to Canada. The ones we share our space with must get plenty of insects to eat because the adults are often 8.5-9.0 inches in length and almost 'pudgy'.
