Today was much like yesterday: a dull morning's walk with Django, then a day working on the memoir and another document, broken by interactions with my prospective new PhD student. I find it hard to accept that he's actually decided to take up the position, partly because he seems to be an excellent match for the position (and someone who sounds good to work with) and partly because it implies that someone thinks I'm worth working with. Rationally, I know I'm offering an exciting position, but not all feelings are rational. That he's visiting Edinburgh next week to look for accommodation, sounds positive, though...

As a climber (in spirit, at least) I had to stop work to watch the men's  bouldering and lead climbing at the Olympics this morning. Regardless of the nationality of the winner, it was (literally) gripping sport, and I don't think that it's necessary to have climbed to appreciate it: the action is slow, the objective is clear (with no subjectivity) and obviously hard! Excellent TV sport!

A went out this evening, so I had an Indian take-away, watched the end of the heptathlon, and then walked Django, avoiding one of several torrential showers.
