Discs

I haven't been out all day, catching up after the week away. For a blip I concentrated on the centre of one of yesterday's sunflowers, made up of disc florets. (The attractive long, yellow parts are called ray florets).

They don't look special but they're an essential part of the flower and will produce seeds once the bees have done their stuff.
