History...
It has been a year since I felt myself again. I am finally coming to terms that my mom is never coming home again. All the little things got done easily but now it all the personal stuff. I am grateful for the time to do this work slowly as this time next year I will likely be in an apartment and the house would have been sold.
This room was my parents bedroom when I was 4 years old. Because it looks out to the street, my parents took the medium size bedroom that looks into the backyard and this became my sisters room. My parents let us paint our rooms the way we wanted to. The wall on the right had a treble clef with musical notes, the bed had a piano keys comforter and.. Then this room became the guest room. When my dad started having problem going down the stairs to do laundry, this became the guest / laundry room. Finally it became my bedroom. Since I am having difficulty going through things, not much was thrown out when I moved everything to my old bedroom – what was my nephews room when he stayed over with his grandma – but everything is now organized and that is a start.
In the first extra is two footlocker trunks that hold so much history. The red one was my grandpa food trunk when he went camping, picnics and.. then it spent many years on trips with my parents sister and I. The green one I don’t know much about but it was my great uncles and it still has the Fort Lewis (military base) shipment sticker on it. I was told as he was transferred place to place this came with him and eventually home. When he passed, it went to another great uncle. When he was downsizing he asked if I wanted it and being family history I said of course. It holds many treasures too. When everything was moved over I lifted the lid on the red one for the first time in years – way to much for me today to even think about going through it.
In the second extra “Yes Tiger, we can hold off on breakfast for awhile”. It was taken this morning. Just like me, Tiger doesn’t like change and so when I was done moving things, Tiger ignored me by staring out the window for about 3 hours. He then came into the living room, curled up on my tummy where I hugged him tightly and he took a 30 minute catnap. I wish we could tell our critters everything will be okay.
Seeing my mom tomorrow. My sister said she was “out there” today… Hopefully a good nights rest will help her and if not, we will will see Timmy get saved by Lassie again and again..
