Fort

I’m back on Zanzibar to join Robin’s birthday gathering at his and Kate’s house this afternoon. I mooched around the centre of Stone Town for a couple of hours, drinking coffee and generally cultivating a wistful and relaxed demeanour. Two security guards accosted me as I took this photo of the Old Fort because my feet were incorrectly positioned on some grass.

Later I took a bajaj to the gathering, buying some alcohol en route, which can be a challenging commodity to find in Zanzibar, unless you’re in the know. The afternoon and evening were very enjoyable, meeting some old and new friends, and at one point we all went for a sunset swim at high tide by following the path to the bottom of the garden and climbing over the jagged coral rag to leap into the water.
