Fi and I went to Horseshoe Quarry today, and inspite of arriving there at 9am found the parking full, including several vans, so we used the layby just up the road. We didn't understand it really because there weren't that many people climbing... there were however a couple of tents in the quarry, and perhaps the van occupants weren't yet up!
Fi had unfinished business on the far wall, see picture, although that's not us, and we made our way to the top of the muddy ramp on the right. There's a knotted rope to help, plus loops for you to attach yourself to while belaying. There was a group of four already up there, which made it complicated, but Fi climbed the routes she was after and I belayed and then followed.
We came down and found some shade for lunch, then did one final route at the bottom of the slope before calling it a day. It was really hot and we'd had enough! I don't like my new helmet, it slips to the back of my head no matter how I adjust it, I'll have to get another :-( My old helmet was so comfortable that I forgot I was wearing it! Thankfully my new rockshoes are great. There was lots of Marjoram growing over the quarry floor, 2nd extra and what a gorgeous smell, but one of the best things about the day was watching the enormous number of House Martins swooping above and in front of the crag!
I dropped Fi off and stayed for a cup of tea before going home via the allotment for watering. Today's produce in the extra.
