Summer
Gorgeous warm sunny day…but not as hot as down south where Mt was cleaning and resurfacing the kitchen flat roof when I called him this morning…not a job I’d be liking to do!
I had a quiet morning doing some ironing and making beds up, then A&N came over to be in the town for his birthday. After cake and presents etc we walked over to the Meadows to have a drink and chat in the sun as the crowds and music spilled around us. We tried to remember what he’d done on previous birthdays…luckily he’s almost always on holiday for it so it’s not hard for him to have fun!
I left them and went to B&M’s garage event…songs, poems, drinks etc out of the garage he keeps on George Square lane. Lovely to catch up with M having not seen him for ages and we planned a Sunday lunch some time in September.
I popped home to take Paisley into the garden for a bit of time exploring and then gave her some supper before going to the Book Festival to see Kate Molleson interviewing Susan Tomes about her book on women pianists and composers through the years. She played as well as talking, and it was fairly interesting although I got the impression Kate was pushing her to have been bolder in her analysis and not just maintain what Susan called ‘the author’s distance and objectivity’ especially in discussing the material on modern day women’s experiences.
I had to sneak out early to get to the museum for the dress rehearsal of Scottish Opera’s Oedipus Rex. Fabulous event…spread across the whole of the huge space and with the community chorus mingling with the crowd. C and I found ourselves in the midst of one part of the chorus at one point and nearly joined in! Great fun, but I must read the synopsis more before we see it again as I wasn’t sure what was going on a lot of the time!
Home to watch a bit of the (very slow) olympics closing ceremony then bed.
