Dome sweet dome on the farm (backblip)
I was awoken at 2am by a very loud rendition of Redemption Song, the Bob Marley classic. Thought it might have been a rebeller's boombox, but no, it was one of the stages doing their finale and walking the entire site!
After a cooked breakfast of immense magnitude which we bought from the stalls that were still.open, it was time to pack up and leave WOMAD. Luckily others had done so ahead of us, so it was easy enough though get out.
Drove back to Stroud, had lunch, did some serious proper-camping--packing of the can, and set off for the Gower peninsula, South Wales. The motorways were congested. It all took far longer than expected, but when we arrived at Pitton Cross, toward the end of the peninsula, we were rewarded with tranquility and a beautiful, spacious farm campsite with views over the coast.
We pitched the tent (above) and hurried along the coastal path to Mewslade Bay so that K could have a wild swim. The rocks looked sharp and prickly, so I stayed on the upper path and watched the sun setting. I was a bit worried about having to go back in total darkness, so I insisted on us walking back part of the way along the road. A humongous tractor came towards us, with dragons' eyes flashing, and we had to press ourselves against a hawthorn, which was spiky in the extreme. My left leg already bore claw marks after an altercation with some brambles. I do.not recommend the road route to pedestrians, shorter though it is than the more scenic competition.
We had tea, and some kind of cowboy dinner before settling down to the wonderful sound of silence and the smell of the countryside. We were delighted to have arrived, after a long drive, in a part of paradise.
