Peacock Butterfly ( Aglais io )

At last!  This year has been terrible for butterflies,at least round here.  We have a large "Butterfly bush"  ( Buddleja ) which by this time is usually alive with butterflies of a good number of varieties.  This year all I have seen is the odd Large White, until today.

I decided I had better try for a butterfly shot even if it was just a Large White.  So i went out into the hot sun to wait for a butterfly.  Before long a white appeared but didn't settle.  The next settyled obscured by a leaf.  Finally a coloured one appeared, only to land again obscured by a leaf.  It was a small Tortoiseshell.  Finally I got a white nicely posed.  So off I went indoors.  Later I decided to have another go, just as this Peacock arrived.  Job done!(
