Postcard from the Cote d’Azur
I had my replacement hip surgery yesterday. All went well. There was lots of arthritis - bone on bone. I started the process three years ago because I was going through the public health system as we don’t have health insurance. Our health system is broken, especially for elective surgery. Not enough surgeons and nurses and specialists preferring to work in the private hospitals. Once I realised I wasn’t likely to get a new hip any time soon through the public hospital we decided to spend some of the kids inheritance and go private. There was just a two month wait. The disadvantage is that it’s horrendously expensive. The equivalent of a luxury holiday on the Côte d’Azur. So that’s how I’m dealing with it. I’m on holiday in a luxurious hotel somewhere on the French Riviera (minus the view). The food here is restaurant quality, the care and hospitality is above par but I might have to complain to the management about the minimalist room decor. Definitely no opulence here.
My ticket to leaving here is those crutches standing in the corner. When I become comfortable and confident using them and can walk up and down steps, I can be discharged. Maybe not tomorrow but hopefully Thursday. :
