Venice

The alarm clocks were set at 5:00 am today.
Very early because we're going to Venice today and we want to be there as early as possible.
We left around 6:15 and arrived 135 kilometers and 1.45 hours later in Mestre. Very close to Venice. Here I parked my car and from there we took the train to Venice. A 10 minutes ride in the train. Perfect!
It wasn't even 9 o'clock when we walked out of the main station into the city.
Lots of people were heading into the city already but it wasn't that crowded (yet).
Warm it was! We all started sweating big time. A very moist warmth was the cause. And it was only getting hotter and hotter.
And more crowded by the minute.

But we all loved Venice with the narrow streets, churches and squares. When we finally arrived on the San Marco square I must confess I was a bit disappointed. The palace was beautiful, but I had imagined the square much wider. The building construction in the middle didn't help either.
And neither did the fact that the whole square was burning in the bright sun.
But beautiful it was. We walked on to see more and more highlights.
But man it was hot!! 39C and rising.
We drank water almost nonstop, but the sun was killing.

Around 14:00 we had a lunch inside an airconditioned restaurant. That brought us back to life again. Once outside we were all fit to go again.
We strolled on through narrow streets and enjoyed our time there.
Around 16:00 we were done with the heat, had seen the biggest highlights of the city and therefore decided to go back to the mountains where our home is.

After another smooth drive from Mestre back to Borca di Cadore we took refreshing cold showers. Followed by a home made meal (by me).
We now are all tired and I think we'll hit our mattresses very soon for a long night.

Venice was beautiful! I loved it there and will definitely go back some time. For more photography. But not in mid summer again!!

Chances are I will post some extra photos very soon. But not today.
