Flappy Man

Tony had his hearing aid fitting first thing today so Euan and I had a relaxing start to the day.  When Tony returned we packed up the car with Euan's bike and parked up in Bingley to have a smashing ride (and stiff walk in our case) along the canal to Saltaire.  Lots of folks were making the most of the lovely morning, walking, cycling, canoeing, paddle boarding, narrow boating, dog walking, jogging on or next to the canal.  We paused at Dowley Gap as a narrowboat was working up through the lock and Tony showed its workings and explained to Euan who was rapt.  Then we were on to Saltaire and lunch at the Half Moon Cafe followed by some time in the very busy playground.

Euan had requested an ice cream so we vetoed the Mr Whippy at the gates of the park in favour of the ice cream barge back on the canal.  Euan was very taken with getting an ice cream from a boat and loved watching 'Flappy Man' (his nickname).  Another stint at the playground should have been followed by a visit to the bike shop and the wonderful Salts Mill bookshop, but we discovered the Mill is only open Wed - Sun in August.  Seems bonkers when there are so many tourists in Saltaire in the summer but perhaps it's to give the workers a break??

We took the train back to Bingley and Euan had some quiet time on our return home whilst Tony wrangled with his RollerCoaster Engineering and I prepped dinner.   Another fun day.
