Not A Nice Day For Vampires
On This Day In History
2014: Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall dies
Quote Of The Day
"Yes, I saw Twilight - my granddaughter made me watch it. She said it was the greatest vampire film ever. After the "film" was over I wanted to smack her across her head with my shoe, but I do not want a book called Granny Dearest written on me when I die. So I gave her a DVD of Murnau's 1922 masterpiece Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror and told her, "Now that's a vampire film!" And that goes for all of you! Watch Nosferatu instead!"
(Lauren Bacall)
I was always torn between Lauren Bacall and Ava Gardner as my favourite classic Hollywood actresses. Now, having discovered Lauren Bacall's vehement passion for classic vampire films, it's hands down to Ms. Bacall.
On the subject of classic films and actresses, I watched my favourite contemporary actress in a remake of a classic 1950's science fiction film last night. I avoided it when it came out in 2008 because I was worried that it would taint my love of the original masterpiece. Actually, it wasn't too bad. It managed to recapture the sense of awe and wonder of the original, it spared us extended yawn-inducing ‘spectacular” SPFX of global destruction and it was only let down by an ambiguous ending and an annoying kid played by Jaden Smith. Can you guess the film and the actress?
I went to Umeda for a browse around the city today. I managed a three hour walk with the temperature at a new high for this summer of 39°C or 102.2°F. Ha ha; burn, vampires!
The Rocketeer (another clue to the actress, and a top-notch score to a top-notch film.)
